Relevance Model

For Higher Education

Woolston’s approach to growing enrollment recognizes how imperative it is that an institution be relevant. Otherwise students will increasingly choose either to attend another college or university or, even worse, not to pursue postsecondary education at all. Further, it is not enough to be relevant, an institution must also communicate how it is relevant. Otherwise, it will become obsolete. The converse is also true: The more relevant an institution is the more it will grow, despite demographic and other acute challenges facing higher education now.

Woolston Inventive uses the Relevance Model℠ to help you both increase and demonstrate your relevance to all populations: prospective students, current students (for retention and completion), internal constituents (faculty, staff, administration and leadership), influencers, alumni, government, etc.

The elements are represented by icons and labeled 'COST' with a dollar sign, 'COLLEGE-GOING' with a graduation cap, 'TIME' with a clock, 'PROGRAM' with an open book, and 'DELIVERY', suggesting the method of implementation.

College Going

In an environment where the college-going population is decreasing significantly, it is our responsibility to foster a college-going culture by making the experience and the payoff of college more RELEVANT for more students.

  • College enrollment and degree attainment has reached historic rates of irrelevance in the face of both new and exacerbated challenges, including rising concern about the cost of college, increasing skepticism about the value of college, the impending demographic cliff (and the foreshadowing demand cliff), the new economic considerations, etc.

  • Woolston helped a university raise enrollment rates to record highs in an unprecedentedly short period by increasing college awareness throughout the entire region. The RELEVANT wrap-around approach he developed reached beyond individual prospective students to school counselors and entire communities.
